Social Strategies We Learned From The Kardashians

Flip through channels or scroll through your feed, and you will probably stumble onto something from the Kardashians. The infamous family has garnered a lot of attention for their reality TV show and has been largely criticized for having a “lack of talent.” Many claiming that they have no real reason to be famous.

The truth is, however, the Kardashians (and now Jenners) have built a 300 million dollar brand. Kris Jenner turned their family’s fifteen minutes of fame into a slough of successful businesses, turning their brand into a lifestyle. Earlier this month, BuzzFeed counted down a list of 56 successful companies and entrepreneurial endeavors spearheaded by the Kardashian-Jenner family.

Much of their success can be attributed to their hard work and of course the cult following who support all of their products along the way. Over the years, we have watched the Kendall, Kylie, Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Kris cultivate strong relationships with their fans.

Through some of the most effective social strategies, they have been able to use their presence on platforms like Instagram to sell their brand like no one else has been able to before. That’s why we’re counting down, some of our favorite social strategies they have employed throughout the years.

1. They are human.

You won’t see any robotic, scheduled messages from Kim. Like most of us, Kim and her daughter North are loving Snapchat’s popular filters. One of the largest appeals of the Kardashian empire, is how relatable their families are. They share conflicts and raw emotions about love, family, and business.

2. But they are also larger than life.

Grabbing Popeye’s fried chicken on any given day is human, eating Popeye’s on a private jet? Not so much. You can expect some larger than life moments from the Kardashian family, but that is exactly what their brand is – lavish, extravagant, and over the top.

3. They talk just like us.

Weekend goals, dresses that are slaying, eyebrows on fleek –  Kourtney, Kim and Khloe talk just like their fans. Although they may be promoting a magazine cover or new product you will never hear the Kardashians use corporate-speak to do it. You can always count on the best social strategists to be on trend with their copy and visual style.

4. Product endorsements are minimal.

The Kardashians are known for their sponsored teas, teeth whiteners, and more on social media. Although it may seem a bit awkward, their product endorsements always feature clear, high quality images of themselves and their product. The tip here is to avoid overdoing it. You won’t see Khloe overselling the product in the copy or posting one of these more than once a week or month.

We wish we could say the Kardashians are just like us but that simply would not be true. The next time you see them online, on TV, or on social media consider what strategies they’re using to communicate to their fans.
