Football is Back: Advertise With These Tips in Mind

The month of September marks the beginning of a long awaited season of football. For many online businesses it is a great time to sell a variety of products before the holiday season begins. Whether you are advertising online or doing traditional marketing, you are working with a captive audience that is dedicating close to 12 hours a day to Football. This leaves a significant gap to sell everything from team paraphernalia to food to toilet paper. The best part? It isn’t difficult to tap into the Football spirit.

Here are some tips to keep in mind while you advertise this month:

Football is back! Generate excitement with themed content.

Your website, social media, and email marketing campaigns are great places to start showcasing your football themed content. Promote different parts of football season for more variety in your advertising. This can include the tailgate, barbecues, or the game itself.  Here are some great examples by two pet companies, Pet Supplies Plus and Petco.

Pet Supplies Plus provides a helpful forecast for local subscribers who will be outside tailgating and Petco selected some grill-themed products so pets can enjoy football season as well.

Attract local customers with your team’s colors.

Use website banners showcasing your items in your local team’s colors or using the local mascot. It is important that if you are selling any team paraphernalia or products in the team colors that it is promoted  on your home page and through other major channels such as social media.

Another way of promoting football season is by dedicating a landing page to anything football. Kohl’s and Victoria’s Secret Pink do a great job of incorporating the season into their existing web sites.

Sunday is now a great time to advertise.

If you have come up with great content to promote football season, we recommend investing in Google AdWords, Facebook and Instagram advertising. This will allow you to indirectly associate your products and/or content with trending football news.
